Every gun I have seen from 1966-1968 had the year before the L and a SN between 35000 and 45999 (i.e. 8L45123). To beat the bush even further, on Page 165 of R.Blake Steven's book, "The Browning High Power Automatic Pistol", there's a photo of a very nice engraved Hi Power, serial # 63839, manufactured in 1950. fish mustang
